Pepsico Inc (NYSE: PEP) wins a battle for distributing rights in The City University of New York(CUNY) against rival Coca-Cola Bottling Co Consolidated (NASDAQ: COKE). CUNY has banned Coke products on all 24 of its campuses, this is due to Coke being involved with murder of union leader in Colombia in 2005. “The real drive behind that resolution was that we don’t do business with corporations that have issues with human rights and workers’ rights,” said one of CUNY's spokesman. CUNY has worked out a $21 million deal with Pepsi that gives the company exclusive rights to Pepsi to distribute beverages to all 24 campuses. This will be a blow for Coke because the lose business from half a million consumers, around 350,000 being students and rest faculty in the CUNY system. CUNY has declined to say report the price that Coke offered for the deal but I have a feeling it is less then Pepsi's offer. Both Pepsi and Coke are down over 1.30% in the market today. In other news Pepsi and Frito's Lays came out with a new flavor of chips in Japan, this is really not fair I want to try some.
